I’ve bought an Explorer (91, 2wd, 4.0 ohv) off a friend for very cheap since he couldn’t figure out the problem with it. It runs extremely rich and was backfiring to the point of exploding the mufflers he put on it. As it sits I have improved on it but it is still down on power and backfiring at high throttle. Parts that have been changed include: M A F sensor and housing Coolant temp sensor Plugs, wires, and ignition coil Charcoal canister O2 sensor Fuel pressure regulator Vacuum lines reconnected
Currently the exhaust is cut off immediately behind the cat. Before I got the car my friend had 3 mufflers blow out from backfires so I havent wanted to put a new one on until I get it to stop. Any input would be great, Im at a loss as to what to do next.
